General info

Crimean War tour

The war between Russia and Britain, France and Turkey covered the three-year period between 1853 to 56 leaving name synonymous with heroism a name that echoes down British military history. The Crimean War is, however, more than just the stories of that fateful Charge of the Light Brigade immortalised by Tehnyson or the heroic administrations of the certain Florence Nightingale. It is about a turning point in history that would forever change the face of Europe destroy governments and reform countries.

This weeklong tour focuses on the events of 1854-55 and until recently. Sevastopol has been a restricted military zone and therefore inaccessible. The Crimea is now part of the Ukraine and Sevastopol with the port and environs make for one of the most exotic and fascinating battlefield tour locations ever including. The Battle of the Alma. One of the bloodiest assault river crossing in history, the site is almost unchanged. The Battle of Balaklava.
The routs of the charges of the Heavy and the Light Brigades will be walked in detail. The Battle of Inkerman. The site of the most bitterly fought centres in the whole of the Crimean War is today hardly known about. The bones of the contestants lie on the surface for us all to see. The Siege of Sevastopol. The ancient port and city still bears its sears. We will see where young Leo Tolstoy won his spurs.
